Well, folks, we’re nearly done with this unprecedented and massively challenging year, so we’ll keep 2020’s final edition of Monitor Notes short and sweet. Here are a few quick items to close the year:
- Plan Bay Area 2050 is in the last phase of development before its adoption scheduled for fall 2021. Here’s another reminder that you can get the latest progress report from agency staff in a webinar next Tuesday. And for a broader reflection on Bay Area transportation in 2020, head over to Streetsblog SF for a little food for thought.
- Speaking of food, if you enjoyed Leslie Stewart’s recent article on emissions related to the food system and are looking for a New Year’s resolution, consider joining Acterra’s Veganuary Your Way 2021 challenge.
- Robin Meadows continues to investigate the possibility of bringing sea otters back to San Francisco Bay with an article this week in Scientific American.
- And we would be remiss not to acknowledge the news this month that East Bay Regional Park District General Manager Robert Doyle is retiring from the agency where he has worked for 47 years. That’s two years longer than the Monitor has been around!
Finally, if you appreciate what we are doing and can spare the money, we would be grateful to receive a donation from you. We have received fewer donations this year than in the past, which can be attributed to the economic turmoil brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, but is probably also due to the fact that we haven’t been asking, focusing instead on bringing you useful news and opportunities to civically engage. So we are asking now: Can you please support us?
Thank you very much for your readership. Cecily O’Connor will be back next week as usual. In the meanwhile, the League wishes you a happy and healthy new year.
Sincerely,
Alec MacDonald
Editor, Bay Area Monitor
