High-Speed Rail Authority to Host Open Houses

In creating the nation’s first high-speed rail system, the California High-Speed Rail Authority intends to connect the Bay Area with the Central Valley in two project sections, San Francisco to San Jose, and San Jose to Merced. These sections will be part of a route that runs trains from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds capable of over 220 miles per hour. The whole system will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

As the Authority commences with environmental analysis and preliminary engineering, it has scheduled four community open house meetings in the Bay Area to provide up-to-date information on planning, alignments and station locations between San Francisco and Merced, and next steps in the process. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and leave comments.

All of the community open houses will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a formal presentation set at 6 p.m., on the following dates:

Tuesday, September 8 in the Commonwealth Club at 555 Post Street in San Francisco

Tuesday, September 15 in the Roosevelt Community Center at 901 East Santa Clara Street in San Jose

Wednesday, September 23 in the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center at 17000 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill

Wednesday, October 7 in the Burlingame Auditorium at 850 Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame
