As Robin Meadows wrote in the most recent edition of the Monitor, trash poses a serious threat to our waterways. In addition to describing policy solutions for targeting the problem, she also mentioned how members of the general public help stem the tide of trash by participating in Coastal Cleanup Day every September. Another notable occasion for such large-scale volunteer cleanup efforts is Earth Day, coming up soon on April 22.
